Goodness gracious, it's a meme! Superinkygirl tagged me for (with?) this meme: what are your Top Five concerts you attended while attending high school? I responded in the comments section of the actual meme post, but in the proper meme protocol I should probably (1) post the meme here, (2) respond, and (3) tag some people or whatever.
My responses to superinkygirl definitely omitted some great shows. You can check out the original responses with the superinkygirl but I won't repeat myself here. Let's follow protocol and I'll come up with an equally equal top five, in no particular order.
- Meme: what are your Top Five concerts you attended while attending high school?
- My responses:
- 7 Seconds, Soulforce Revolution tour, winter '90... maybe December '89?
While 7 Seconds were certainly no longer at their peak, Soulforce Revolution was a hell of a lot better than Ourselves, and this was technically was the first and best "punk rock" (for the sake of punk rock, I guess) show I went to. I remember seeing 7 Seconds really meaning something to me because it was 7 Seconds. Ah, to be 15 and taking punk rock things very seriously...
Always the newness and excitment of the first time you see one of "your"
punk rockbands live; other shows might be great, but never that great. - Superchunk, fall '91. No Pocky for Kitty tour.
An unexpectedly great show at a time when I couldn't stop listening to the No Pocky for Kitty record. Right place, right time - I thought the show would be good, but they were totally overwhelming. I also took pictures of the show I was quite pleased with, which always sweetens the show-going experience.
- Public Enemy, fall '91. Bring Tha Noize tour, I believe.
Anthrax headlining. Primus opened. Primus were not totally terrible for maybe 5 minutes, and that was a long time before 1991. The girl (and her brother, I believe) I went with dropped acid at some point during the show, leading to a mystifying freakout (we were sitting near cops) at Denny's afterwards. I had no idea what was going on up to that point, so maybe I'm an idiot. Still, Public Enemy were amazing.
- Rush, Roll The Bones tour, February 1992.
Primus opening... again. A recurring nightmare. Anyway, it was Rush live - Neal Peart's 20-minute drum solo ("The Rhythm Method") and everything. I got to see Rush. Things were on a slighly different tack from winter '89/'90.
- Sprawl, probably the first time I saw them, almost certainly at the Axiom.
I am finding no online listing of Sprawl shows, but I think this was some time in 1990. Summer? Too many good/great Sprawl shows to list, I can't remember many specifics. I'm pretty sure that the first time was probably the best. Maybe there were "better" later shows, but the first time is what I remember as being the the best, newest, most exciting, whathaveyou.
- 7 Seconds, Soulforce Revolution tour, winter '90... maybe December '89?
- I now politely request the following folks respond, but only if they feel like it:
If you want to respond and have some sort of electronic or electric forum to do so, maybe that will be fun for you. In any event, all people who are reading this please feel free to respond in the comments or anywhere else.
Done and done. You were much cooler than I during the high school years.

Come to think of it, you're cooler now too, unless this online very metal persona is all a facade.

I am lame. I only went to one concert in high school and it was my senior year. Billy Joel. It was actually really fun because we were snowed in the concert hall. So he came back out and played Christmas caroles for 2 more hours.
