Leetspeak: it's ubiquitous, initally confusing, and, as it turns out, totally retro. I was browsing through some of my compact discs (I think the kids call them "CDs" these days) the other day, and I stumbled across the Stiff Little Fingers' Nobody's Heroes -- and it was all there! Well, a significant chunk of it, anyway. "It" being leetspeak, I mean. Anyway, check it out:
Amazing: 5 for "S", 1 for "I", (reversed) 3 for "E", 6 for "G"... even the nice "upside down 1 for 'T' innovation". Nice. And Nobody's Heroes came out in 1980 -- it sure would be nice to see all these l33t h4xx0rs give a little credit where credit is due. Trust me, it's a great record. Not quite as blindingly brilliant as Inflammable Material, but, really, what is?
