secret comics

it's strange - there was a time where i was in the mindset to regularly translate things going on (internally or externally) into these entries.  not that i was ordering experience thusly, but there was a little mental organizing track that put things together for secret comics consumption.  like when you are looking at things from the perspective of taking a lot of pictures - you're seeing not just what you're seeing but you've got an additional "how would i take a picture of this" dialog going on.  or how would this work for a short story, a film, etc.

this may not be how i am ordering things lately, and i'm not sure that's a bad thing.  for instance - last tuesday was the beatings show.  it was an amazing evening, yet for some reason i just did not feel compelled to come to the comics and write about it.  i guess i was ok with it being what it was.  well maybe it's not exactly that.  nevertheless these are things i am thinking about.

so long, becky s... and thanks for all the links i cribbed.  truly you were the first excellent blog i read.  still one of the few and the proud, the not annoying.  something to be said for quitting while you're ahead.  actually...

god i really want to do that with the comics.  not that i'm "still ahead", but at least i'm not... well i won't be crummy but at least i'm not.  am i just hanging around with this to hang around?  i really can think of better ways to spend my time, although this is still fun every once in a while.  between you and me though, the blog thing lost its novelty a while ago.  i'm never going to get all that personal in this kind of forum, and i really don't fixate on the music i write about - it's just easy content.  all in fun i guess.  i still have several months free left with typepad so i'll just coast on those and see where that takes me.

friday brought a very pleasing, semi-meta experience. i think i may be misusing meta here but that's fine. anyway-

point: i work in an office building. there is a food serving establishment downstairs in this office building. many mornings i go there and get (the same thing for) breakfast and eat about half of it because it's nice to alternate something with the newspaper-y crunch of kashi go lean.

point: anyway, there is an employee at this food serving establishment who is sort of scowl-y and rude. for some reason this bothers me. maybe i feel a little vulnerable in the morning. maybe i feel a right jerk in my office robot clothes and smart a little bit being treated, well, like an office robot. why the fuck do i need validation from some jerkass in a bakery? i don't, but her meaness in light of my efforts to be polite continues to fascinate me.

point: friday i had some things to do so i left early from work. one of these things was to buy a little plastic robot. to do this went to a local toy selling establishment. and at this local toy selling establishment was the mean girl from the office building bakery! she'd been being all too cool for school like hours ago -- what th-?!? how could she have gotten over to the toy store so fast? goes without saying it took me a minute or so to sort things out.

point: it was her twin i suppose. or an eerily similar-looking sister. almost certainly her twin.

point: so i had a very nice exchange with the mean bakery girl's doppelgänger or twin or whatever and there was a sense of making things a little more right in the universe. we chatted about the [...] i ended up also buying and it was quite pleasant. so i guess everybody's got a nice side, even if you have to find a blood relative to find it.

and that's one to grow on.

contest-a-monium

the computer appears to be fixed... not fixed like it got fixed last time (that is, for like half an hour then boom). i believe they did the job this time. famous last words of course... but what's the point of waiting around for the worst case scenario. things seem to be running fine.

as a bonus, they returned a cd/dvd to me which i thought was just one of the OSX discs i might have left in my drive last time. no. no it is not. they taped "they're gonna laugh at you!" by adam sandler on the top of my ibook. no, i am not too cool to own this... but still... i've never owned this. can't say i've thought about it. anyway i'd like to share this windfall with you, my handful of remaining readers (you're the folks who're still scoring in the 99 percentile on all the tests that still count), contest-style.

like so: come up with a 40 or 50 (whatever) word essay on why you would be the best person to recieve a used copy of adam sandler's "they're all gonna laugh at you" on cd. cover's missing, but it comes in a lovely protective slipcover. post responses here as a comment, email me, or do what you have to do. just get it to me. the best one wins the album. i may hand out a prize or two for deserving runner-ups. have fun!

pointers for esssay writers seeking an edge:

• lie about things you've done to deserve the record. the more fanatstic the better. but, you know, keep it cool.
• tell fantastic rambling stories that only barely touch on the cd (if at all). that sounds like fun for everyone and something i would really like to read.
• no grammar or spelling points, duh
• don't limit yourself to any one language. a one-time numbers cryptogram (assuming the right people had keys) could score some big points.
• a nice meal could also vault you to the front of the line... not saying, just saying.

minnie took a nice honest look at being 19 and i thought it might be nice to rip off her idea and do the same.  but about 4 sentences in the whole project became too horrifying to contemplate continuing.  19 was a terrible, terrible year.  i guess the tailend was ok because i was sort of waking up from a nightmare and moving forward.

maybe i shouldn't be so hard on 19.  it was a pretty fucking terrible age to be, personally.  i should actually be a little easier on myself.  it's a little disappointing that i can't just throw caution when it comes remembering those days.  remembering and writing about i mean.  i've made peace (more or less) with the time, i just sort of recoiled at putting it down on paper.  or whatever the hell this is.

i had a little minor dental surgery this morning.  now i get to have ice cream for lunch and dinner.  and maybe a painkiller.  and a little empire strikes back.  if i had a ps2 i would play katamari damacy.

the compy is now in the process of being fixed.  somehow my hard drive went haywire and that's being taken care of as i write this.  i toyed with the idea of forgoing repair expenses and getting a new computer but will wait to buy a mac book pro if i'm going to buy anything.  or one of the ibooks with the intel core duo processors that are rumored to be coming out soon.  in any event i don't want to buy a new computer that is hopelessly outmoded directly after purchase.

this may be the most computer oriented post i can remember writing and that makes me uncomfortable.

corwood industries has two new releases coming out shortly - one that appears to be out already, one that may not be out until later in the spring.  corwood 0782: khartoum variations.  apparently a re-recording of last year's corwood 0781, khartoum, which i liked very much.  i will probably be ordering that this afternoon.  corwood 0783: newcastle sunday.  this is very exciting indeed.  a 2-disc, hour and a half release of jandek's 2005 show in, well in newcastle i suppose.  the one after glasgow.  apparently coming out in may.
