Hey.  You are formally invited to a benefit for Joe Warmbrodt next Saturday, June 3rd at Red's Scoot Inn (1308 E. 4th) - things will be starting around 5:00 p.m.  The link will give you all the details about what crazygonuts fun things will be happening but rest assured there will be bands and Karaoke Underground and fajitas, BBQ, and baked goods for sale, as well as no cover charge but of course your generous donations will be gratefully accepted.  Since of course you will be making them.  So go already!

More about Joe:

Joe is my dear friend Tom's brother and about six months ago, Joe's liver and bile ducts started having trouble due to a chronic gastric disease he has had since childhood.  Attempts to fix his liver through surgery introduced complications, causing a harrowing trifecta of organ failure (liver, kidneys, pancreas).

After two long months in the hospital, Joe has largely recovered usage of his organs, and although he is still some distance from being well, he is able to live at home and currently enjoys an only moderately restricted diet. While Joe was medically insured, a two month stay in the hospital will create large bills that insurance doesn't cover.  The benefit is an attempt to help keep Joe and his wife financially afloat during these rocky times.

i stole this idea, but i misread this post and went with a 5x5 of high school records, not post-high school ones.  maybe i should have spent more time in "reading things closely" classes while in high school.  good times...

and so the slightly "alternative" looking youngster was talking loudly enough for me to overhear a snippet of her/his (who can tell with kids these days?) conversation with their peer(s)/guardian(s) in the restaurant, and they said:

"it looked like it came from riverdale"

and i thought: what an outstanding young person, making a riverdale reference like that.  nobody makes riverdale references.  would they have dared make a dilton doiley allusion or would that be too much to ask?  so kudos to you, dyed-hair-having future of america, you kick ass... for being awesome.  and then it hit me.  they had actually said:

"it looked like it came from rivendell"

and meant it in a good way.  that doesn't kick any ass at all.
