my recent trip to the bay area was fun.  amazing fun.  i should and could and will write more about all the adventures i had but i will now mainly write about settlers of catan, which i played on sunday with minnie and vim and scott and barbara... and at which i was pretty bad.  of course it was my first time to play, but i now have the fever.  bad.  it was great fun. 

i've already been to dragon's lair to see if they had a copy in (they didn't) so i ordered mine (plus the 5- and 6- player expansion pack) online, which you should do too.  wait.  no.  don't do that.  wait until i get mine and then join my little settlers of catan board gaming circle and we will rule the world.  i already have a few members (ok, people who have expressed an interest) so hurry up and get on board.  it is playable over drinks and dinner and tons of fucking fun.

now i am going to watch grandma's boy.  next best thing to an evening of reading proust i suppose.

don't bring ulysses to read with you on a trip.  you will try harder than usual to get through it and no one will be impressed.  that is all.

it is bloomsday i suppose. maybe i have been distracted by the world cup but it took me several hours into the day to realize this sacred day... for shame. and double for shame since i earlier lied this week about the odyssey - that i had really read it seriously in connection with ulysses and that it was somehow my favorite piece of greek literature. i guess it is... in theory. but when you're asked about greek gods and greek literature and you honestly have nothing, well, you improvise. and yes, you might make a wee bit of a fool of yourself, but that only shows you were trying.

will we see any african teams in the knock-out rounds? angola held tough against a pretty tame effort from mexico. ricardo was tremendous.
